The International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) primary mission is to protect the lives and dignity of people affected by armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC assists and works to prevent further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law. The ICRC collaborates with local Red Cross and Red Crescent national society staff and volunteers to implement its protection and assistance programmes worldwide. This project aims to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. This includes in Palestine. Project activities include: (1) engaging with warring parties on the respect for international humanitarian law; (2) conducting protection activities to support those protected under international humanitarian law (people deprived of liberty, missing and separated, civilian populations); (3) assisting people affected by conflict and violence by providing medical care, income support, and food assistance; (4) working and abiding by the fundamental principles such as neutrality, impartiality, and independence, with all stakeholders; and (5) negotiating safe access to populations in need.
