This contribution represents Canada's institutional support to the tenth replenishment of the Asian Development Fund, of the Asian Development Bank. Established in 1973, the Asian Development Fund provides low interest loans and grants to the poorest countries in the Asia-Pacific region. These funds are used to: improve infrastructure, such as building or upgrading roads and providing better water and electricity supply to more households; support policy development and reform on public sector management, laws and regulations; improve people’s access to quality health and primary and secondary education; support environmentally sustainable investments in local economies; and promote good governance and build capacity to better manage development and regional cooperation. Canada is the 7th largest shareholder of the Asian Development Bank (as of December 2012) and is the 6th largest contributor overall to the Asian Development Fund. The total value of Canada’s contribution to the Tenth replenishment of the Asian Development Fund is $190.7 million. Please note that "2013-2014" refers to calendar years 2013 and 2014 (two annual disbursements)
