Published purpose
With the transition to a low-carbon economy and the uncertainty of complex international relationships, it is required to secure and enhance the supply of critical battery metals in Canada. The project will develop an innovative process that can produce next generation battery materials precursors through selective pressure leaching and precipitation. Leveraging the fundamental research strengths of Queen's University and the NRC's applied research and scale-up capabilities, this project will advance knowledge in selective battery metal production while semi-automated high pressure high temperature (HPHT) reactor systems for critical metal extraction will reduce human intervention. This project will strength chain, reduce GHG emissions, provide HQP training, and promote sustainable resource utilization. By boosting domestic production capacity and accelerating innovation, the collaboration will help drive economic growth and reinforce lobal battery sector. These technological advancements will improve research efficiency and accuracy, supporting a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
