Published purpose

This project seeks to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI) community via the US Department of State’s Global Equity Fund (GEF), in response to an increase in the number of serious and violent crimes committed against individuals and civil society organizations (CSOs) expressing their civil rights and freedoms based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. CSOs, human rights defenders (HRDs) and at-risk actors need urgent support to continue to operate in a context of threats to their well-being and rapidly closing civic space across the world. Project activities include: (1) Provision of emergency protection and rapid response through the ‘Dignity for All’ initiative, including emergency assistance grants, safety and security training, and time-sensitive advocacy initiatives; (2) Provision of technical assistance and capacity building through longer term grants contributing to freedom from violence, access to justice, social inclusion, and an empowered LGBTI movement.
