The Indigenous Health Nursing Chair initiative is expected to: • Support research and development of knowledge and best and wise practices in the area of Indigenous health nursing • Investigate structural factors, including gender, that support and impede Indigenous health nursing and Indigenous health • Explore, describe and/or explain Indigenous research paradigms and their theoretical and methodological implications for Indigenous health nursing standards • Advance the understanding and conceptualization of Indigenous health nursing and its role in the nursing profession • Examine the recruitment and retention of people into the nursing discipline (i.e., practice, education, research and administration) and nurses into the specialty of Indigenous health nursing • Create opportunities and the will for nurses and trainees to engage in Indigenous health nursing leadership • Provide mentorship and training for students
