Published purpose
• As outlined in Reducing the Health Impact of Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections in Canada by 2030: A Pan-Canadian Framework for Action, released in 2018, Canada has adopted an integrated approach to HIV and STBBI across the full continuum of prevention, testing, initiation of care and treatment and ongoing care and support. In 2019, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Canada’s Minister of Health announced the release of the Government of Canada Five-Year Action Plan on Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections that sets out the federal government’s priorities to help advance the Pan-Canadian STBBI Framework for Action. • Funding will be provided for applications that have a primary focus on HIV/AIDS and/or other sexually-transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) across all CIHR Research Themes (i.e., biomedical research, clinical research, health services research and social cultural, environmental and population health research). • Research that focuses on key populations identified by the Pan-Canadian Framework for Action is highly encouraged. • Information on the strategic directions of the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative can be found in the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative: Strategic Plan (2015-2020).
