Published purpose

CIHR and other funding agencies have invested heavily in the establishment of cohorts, databases, and data platforms. As a result, many high-quality data sets exist that contain a wealth of information and have the potential to answer research questions that go beyond those for which the data were originally collected or for which the data has been used to date. Examples of such resources include but are not limited to the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) Dynamic Cohort of Complex, High System Users, the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project (CPTP), the Canadian Urban Environmental Health Research Consortium (CANUE), the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN), and the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). There is also the potential to link diverse datasets, thus enabling explorations of novel associations and interactions between human, environmental, social and clinical factors. The Healthy Cities Research Initiative (HCRI), is partnering with Statistics Canada and the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to support the use of existing survey, administrative and linked datasets held by either agency to further research and develop indicators related to HCRI. Please note that applications are not required to use Statistics Canada or CMHC data. More information regarding Statistics Canada data is available at the Research Data Centre.
