Published purpose

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS). UNAIDS uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. UNAIDS’s mandate is to coordinate all stakeholders involved in the global HIV and AIDS response. This includes United Nations (UN) agencies, governments, civil society, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Guided by the 2021-2026 Global AIDS Strategy, UNAIDS focuses on three main areas: (1) maximizing equitable access to HIV prevention, care, and treatment services; (2) addressing the social and structural determinants that increase HIV vulnerability; and (3) sustaining funding for HIV response. Canada’s support to UNAIDS contributes to maximizing the reach of all Canadian investments in the HIV ecosystem, including through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
