The CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) has a mandate to support innovative research, capacity-building and knowledge translation initiatives designed to improve the way health care services are organized, regulated, managed, financed, paid for, used and delivered, in the interest of improving the health and quality of life of all Canadians. The CIHR-IHSPR also recently launched its Strategic Plan for 2021 to 2026, entitled “Accelerate health system transformation through research to achieve the Quadruple Aim and equity for all”. Funding will be provided for applications that specifically align with IHSPR’s mandate and one or more of the following priority areas: Models of care that optimize inter-professional collaboration and/or integration of services across sectors and that achieve the Quadruple Aim (namely improved value, improved patient and provider experiences, and better health outcomes), and health equity for all Canadians. Health care system transformation (i.e., organization, management, funding and delivery of care, health care workforce) in primary, home, and community care. Organization and delivery of long-term care in Canada. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, innovation in care delivery, health care workforce planning, funding models, and regulatory approaches to assure quality and safety (e.g., legislation, regulation, accreditation). The health care workforce, including, funding and remuneration, training and support, licensing, accreditation, scopes of practice, interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration, and data systems for planning. Integration of upstream prevention within health care delivery settings (e.g., primary health care teams) to improve health, health equity and well-being, and addresses the social determinants of health Implementation and evaluation of virtual care technologies, referral and coordination mechanisms (such as e-referral and e-consult), and remote monitoring solutions, that aim to improve health and patient/provider experience outcomes Advancing the science (methods, theories, frameworks, measures) of real-world impact in health services and policy research (HSPR), including concepts of impact, pathways to HSPR impact, enablers and barriers of HSPR impact, and strategies to demonstrate and communicate HSPR impact.
