Published purpose
This project aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s ability to anticipate, monitor and mitigate the risk of online extremist activities aimed at disrupting societal trust and security in the wake of Bangladesh’s 2024 elections and heightened cybercrime threats from extremist factions. This project helps to monitor violent extremist activity in the democratic process and their aftermath from digital disruptions and enhance the understanding and use of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) products within a human rights and gender-informed framework. Through an in-house Digital Harms Monitor (DHM), project activities include: (1) producing structured (OSINT) products, including alerts, analyses, and reports, to facilitate early detection and promote heightened situational awareness concerning digital violent extremist and cybercrime activities in Bangladesh; and (2) mentoring and capacity-building of civil society and select law enforcement entities.
