Published purpose

This project aims to improve food and nutrition security for stakeholders, particularly women and youth, from farmers’ organizations in the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries sectors in targeted communities in Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali. This project supports the leadership of women and youth in implementing an innovative approach. Project activities include: (1) boosting the climate resilience of the agriculture, agro-forestry, livestock and fisheries sectors through better management of shared natural resources; and (2) strengthening value chains that are especially promising for women and youth, to address intercommunal and transboundary issues. A variety of activities and strategies will be implemented in the Sahel region to address 4 vital and interrelated development challenges: (1) the degradation of natural resources in the face of climate change; (2) the barriers facing stakeholders from various links in the food chain, especially the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries sectors, in which women and youth are heavily involved; (3) the challenges in terms of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in accessing and managing productive resources; and (4) the gaps and weaknesses in the national and sub-regional governance of food and nutrition security.
