Published purpose

October 2024 – The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon continues to deepen as a result of wide-scale hostilities in South Lebanon, the Bekaa valley and Beirut’s southern suburbs. As of October 23, 2024, more than 1,000,000 people are currently displaced, 2,400 reported killed and more than 11,600 wounded since the conflict escalation began at the end of September. Needs assessments have revealed vulnerable crisis-affected populations require urgent access to shelter and food assistance, water, sanitation and hygiene services, and healthcare. To respond to needs emerging from this conflict in a timely and effective manner, the Minister of International Development announced an up to $3 million envelope for a matching fund with the humanitarian coalition in Lebanon. The matching fund addresses the life-saving needs of crisis-affected people, with funds channeled by the humanitarian coalition to its members to undertake relief operations throughout impacted areas. Project activities include: (1) providing cash assistance, food and essential non-food items; (2) providing health and protection services, including emergency mobile services and mental health and psychological support; and (3) providing emergency shelter and water, hygiene and sanitation services.
