For the Fall 2022 CIHR Fellowship Priority Announcements, the CIHR Institute of Aging (CIHR-IA) will fund up to two fellowship applications relevant to the Institute mandate and one of the following research areas as described below: • Ageism and Health: to support one research project focusing on the health impact(s) of Ageism. In alignment the CIHR’s Institute of Aging’s priorities and the World Health Organization’s “Global Report on Ageism”, the topic of Ageism, as it relates to older adults and health outcomes, is one that requires more research. Ageism has a serious impact on physical and mental health, as well as social well-being and is a neglected social determinant of health. Ageism can lead to preventable death, and serious physical and mental health problems1. Fellowship research can focus on Ageism as it relates to health outcomes of older adults in alignment with CIHR-IA’s strategic plan. • Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging: to support one research project on the topic of brain health and cognitive impairment in aging with a priority given to research projects that focus on historically excluded groups from research including but not limited to those marginalized by gender, racialized minorities, persons with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ2S+ communities.
