Published purpose

This grant represents Canada's institutional support to the 11th replenishment of the Special Development Fund (SDF) of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). CDB uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate of providing low-interest loans, grants, technical assistance, and policy advice to its 19 borrowing member countries. The goal is to systematically reduce poverty by fostering social and economic development and regional prosperity. To build resilience in the region, the CDB aims to undertake the following activities in the upcoming SDF cycle: (1) strengthen educational development by building and improving educational facilities and training of teachers; (2) improve agricultural production and food security through improved access to market and production technology, including climate smart practices; (3) improve integrated water and solid waste management capacity of Caribbean countries; (4) increase investment in climate resilient infrastructure development; (5) support the development of a vibrant private sector, particularly the growth of small and medium enterprises, while also promoting the development of supportive business environment; (6) accelerate regional transition to renewable energy; (7) strengthen preparedness and response to climate change and disasters; (8) facilitate regional cooperation and trade; (9) strengthen public financial management practices of borrowing member countries; and (10) mainstream gender equality across all CDB projects, while also increasing direct programming towards women and girls.
