This grant represents Canada's long-term institutional support to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). OCHA uses these funds and other donors' funding to achieve its mandate. OCHA's primary mandate is to coordinate international humanitarian responses in partnership with national and international actors to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action. With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfills its mandate by: (1) coordinating the global emergency response; (2) raising awareness of forgotten crises, promoting respect for international humanitarian law, bringing the voices of affected people to the forefront and helping people access assistance; (3) mobilizing and engaging the full range of financing instruments, mechanisms and partners to meet the growing needs; (4) developing policy to improve humanitarian action and decision-making; and (5) providing information management services to the humanitarian community to inform rapid, effective and principled responses.
