Published purpose
June 2026 - A rapidly growing Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare it a public health emergency of international concern. The WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) is a replenishable multi-donor fund that provides resources necessary to rapidly scale up the WHO’s initial response to health-related outbreaks and emergencies. With GAC’s support, the CFE helps the WHO react early to prevent health emergencies from escalating. Project activities include: (1) deploying experts to assess outbreak threat; (2) delivering essential medicines, supplies and equipment; (3) training health personnel; and (4) strengthening health sector coordination and health information systems.
