This contribution represents Canada’s institutional support to the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), which is part of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The MIF supports economic growth and poverty reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean by stimulating increased private sector investment and development. MIF provides low-income populations with basic services, financing and access to markets, as well as skills to compete in these markets. It is the largest provider of technical assistance for private sector development in the region. The MIF provides technical assistance grants, loans, and equity investments, to fund private sector-led development projects. For example, the MIF helps banks and other private financial institutions lend to micro, small, and medium businesses, and helps companies to increase their social impact, green their operations and access new suppliers. MIF also supports youth training programs and works with government agencies to strengthen regulatory and legal frameworks to facilitate private sector investment and development.
