Published purpose

The CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III) has a mandate to support research,build research capacity and mobilize knowledge in the areas of infectious disease and the body's immune system. This priority announcement has a primary focus on biomedical research in which the objective and aims are directed towards building foundational knowledge in immunology and/or infectious diseases. Funding will be provided for applications that specifically align with III’s mandate and one or more of the following priority areas: • Infection: o Zoonotic or vector-borne transmission of pathogens in the context of Global Climate Change; o Understanding functional genomics and/or molecular epidemiology of emerging/re-emerging pathogens; o Resistance to fungal infections and/or the role of bacteriophages in combatting antimicrobial resistance. • Immunity: o Immune mechanisms involved in the development of trained innate immunity; o Immune mechanisms involved in the development and maintenance of tissue-specific immunity; o Metabolic regulation of immune cells and processes (immunometabolism). Should there be no eligible applications relevant to the Priority Areas, applications that are relevant to the priority announcement but that fall outside of the Priority Areas would be funded.
