Published purpose

This project aims to increase food security and resilience for populations, especially women and children, in Somalia, Niger and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With GAC’s support, the World Food Programme (WFP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is working jointly to respond to food assistance needs in protracted crises. Project activities include: (1) responding to immediate food needs of specific beneficiaries, especially women and children; (2) restoring livelihoods; (3) protecting assets; and (4) preventing negative coping behaviors that contribute to food insecurity. This combination of activities is crucial to building resilience of populations, eventually decreasing dependence on humanitarian food assistance.
