Published purpose
The Indigenous Research Chair in Nursing initiative supports nurses of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous ancestry to conduct research in Indigenous Health Nursing, furthering the development of knowledge and best and wise practices in the area of nursing practice, education, research and administration. In 2019, following the Chair: Indigenous Research Chairs in Nursing competition, six Chairs across Canada (Quebec, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Manitoba) were granted $985,000 over five years in funding. With additional funds now available, CIHR has decided to extend the funding to these Chairs through directed grants. The total amount available is six (6) grants of $200,000 each, with a funding start date of October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026. This funding will support the continuation of their research as Indigenous Research Chairs in Nursing, while CIHR undertakes the work for the relaunch of this initiative.
