Published purpose
The CIHR HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections (STBBI) Research Initiative, under the leadership of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III), defines STBBI as infections that are transmitted primarily through exchange of body fluids during sexual contact and/or through blood, and supports projects with a primary focus on STBBI of public health relevance, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and human papillomavirus. This funding is provided across all CIHR research themes: biomedical research, clinical research, health services research and social, cultural, environmental and population health research. Research that focuses on key populations disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS and STBBI is highly encouraged.
