Published purpose
A two-year project to demonstrate the economic feasibility of rare earth element (REE) oxide extraction technology in the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) mining sector. CRC will use a sensor-based ore sorting process that will concentrate REE oxides on-site before shipping for further processing. This mechanically-based process results in a lowered environmental impact due to the elimination of tailing ponds that accompany metal mining. CRC will leverage the project results to expand this demonstration into full scale extraction and sorting operations. The project site has already undergone an environmental assessment before the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board, and was granted approval for a full-scale expansion. CRC has established a partnership with Det’on Cho Management LP, the economic arm of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, for the completion of this project.
