Published purpose
Following the JWST ERS and Cycle 1 GO Announcement of Opportunity published on June 14, 2021, the CSA is providing funding via a Grant Agreement to the university to conduct their research using the JWST data. Globular star clusters are the oldest assemblages of stars in our Galaxy. Their roughly coeval populations, sharing the same composition and distance from Earth, are ideal laboratories to test out theories of stellar evolution. With JWST they will observe the globular cluster 47 Tucanae, one of the richest and most extensively observed such clusters in our Galaxy, for the first time the cooling brown dwarf sequence and to hunt for ancient planetary systems around white dwarfs.
