Published purpose
This project is part of Canada’s Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program. It supports local and regional women’s rights organizations (WROs), and feminist networks working to promote the rights of women and girls and advance gender equality globally. It provides multi-year core funding and rapid responsive funding, strengthens institutional capacity and bolsters feminist movements, as WROs and feminist movements are critical change agents. The Program continues to respond to the globally recognized and significant gap in funding and support for WROs and feminist movements worldwide. It includes enhanced support for WROs, and women human rights defenders (WHRDs) working in crisis- and conflict-affected settings and a more intentional approach to reaching structurally excluded groups. This includes but is not limited to women and girls with disabilities, Indigenous women and girls and young feminists. CARE facilitates this project and implements it under the Women’s Rights Organizations and networks (WRONs). This allows WRON to determine key priorities, selection processes, results, and remain flexible to the context and needs of the Ethiopia’s women’s rights movement. This project supports an estimated 30 WRONs with multiyear, flexible, operational funding to strengthen their structure and enhance their management and programming capacities. This funding aims to improve their ability to sustain their organizations and service delivery with additional predictable funding. The project also seeks to allocate 50 rapid response funds to address emergent needs.
