Published purpose
Over three years, The Prince George Urban Aboriginal Justice Society (PGUAS) will provide a safe, structured and supervised environment with recreational and leisure activities to approximately one hundred Indigenous youth that are involved with the justice system and who are struggling with mental and/or psychological issues including FASD and addictions. Culturally safe programs and interventions will also be offered and tailored to the youth's individual needs to support their healing and social reintegration. The objectives are to reduce recidivism rates among the Indigenous youth population of Prince George in British Columbia, as well as to test a new program delivery model as an alternative to custody.
