LAW REFORM COMMISSION OF NOVA SCOTIA

Published purpose

The Law Reform Commission of Nova Scotia is re-inventing itself as the Nova Scotia Access to Justice Institute. The Institute will undertake a function that is two-fold: to act as a hub for delivering and coordinating access to justice (A2J) projects in Nova Scotia; and to conduct A2J-related law reform work. This work will include: engaging with key stakeholders such as the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, the Barrister Society and Law Foundation of NS to examine legislative changes and law reform; undertaking research, data collection and collation, analysis, and professional and scholarly engagement on A2J issues, in collaboration with government, justice professionals, the public and academia; and providing Mi'kmaq students studying under the Indigenous, Black and Mi'kmaq Initiative at the Schulich School of Law, access to the Institute's work through internships and research assistantships.
