Published purpose
The organization will host a workshop entitled "Wrongful Convictions in Canada and Israel: Barriers to Exoneration - Phase II" in Ottawa in October, 2019. This knowledge exchange will build on a workshop that was held at Hebrew University in April 2018 where a number of Israeli legal scholars and practitioners discussed the causes of wrongful convictions, evidentiary obstacles to exoneration and institutional models for addressing them. The workshop to be hosted in Ottawa will bring together academics, legal practitioners and governments to examine issues affecting miscarriages of justice from a Canadian perspective. The purpose of this workshop is to build on existing knowledge through continued exploration of the nature and extent of wrongful convictions in both Canada and Israel, and to examine the systems in place that attempt to exonerate the wrongly convicted.
