Published purpose

This project supports the Grand Challenge on Inequality and Exclusion, implemented by New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (Pathfinders). It seeks to work with governments, multilateral partners, and civil society organizations to reduce inequality and exclusion, strengthen democratic governance, and promote peaceful and inclusive societies. The project aims to help leaders design practical solutions and build cross-regional coalitions for change by providing evidence-based policy options and creating platforms for dialogue. Project activities include: (1) producing research and a flagship report with concrete policy tools to address inequality and exclusion, including gender equality; (2) supporting governments and civil society in selected countries through surveys, data, and country accompaniment missions; (3) convening global dialogues, side-events at high-level United Nations (UN), meetings, and policy roundtables to exchange strategies and amplify solutions; and (4) building a diverse multi-stakeholder platform (the Alliance for Action on Inequality and Division) to sustain collaboration among governments, multilateral organizations, and civil society partners. Project beneficiaries include reform-minded policymakers and civil society leaders who gained access to evidence and networks that informed their strategies on inequality and exclusion. The ultimate beneficiaries are citizens in participating countries, who benefit from more equitable, inclusive, and rights-respecting policies advanced through this global coalition.
