Published purpose

This project aims to support artificial intelligence (AI) decision-making around the world and to contribute to advancing capacity around the responsible use and development of AI in the Global South. It particularly focuses on the relationship between AI technologies and the realization of human rights and development goals. The project seeks to bolster the capacity of governments, civil society organizations, human rights defenders, and other stakeholders to uphold rights-based responsible AI principles. It does so by providing them with the benchmark data necessary to foster accountability, develop and implement policy, refine best practices, and encourage regional and international cooperation. The Global Index on Responsible AI (Global Index) is intended to promote the safeguarding of human rights as AI technologies are increasingly adopted globally. It aims to be a comprehensive, reliable, independent, and comparative benchmark on the responsible development and use of AI systems in over 120 countries.
