Published purpose
October 2022 – Heavy monsoon rainfall affecting Pakistan since mid-June has caused widespread flooding that has affected 33 million people and displaced almost 8 million people. Reports show that floods have resulted in road closures, power outages and disruptions to communications in multiple regions, and the spread of water-borne and vector diseases. Over 1,700 people died in the floods, and nearly 13,000 injured. Government authorities and humanitarian agencies have identified food, protection, emergency shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene services, and healthcare as priority needs. An estimated 20.6 million people require humanitarian assistance because of the floods. With GAC’s support, the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) dispatches emergency relief supplies to support the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in meeting the emergency shelter and water, sanitation and hygiene needs of impacted people in Pakistan.
