Published purpose

July 2023 – On April 15, 2023, armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, leading to mass displacement within and outside of Sudan. This conflict resulted in significant protection violations and a lack of access to basic food, water, health, nutrition and other services for vulnerable people. The clashes increased humanitarian needs within Sudan and its neighbouring countries, many of which had been experiencing protected crises before the outbreak of this conflict. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world’s refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and internally displaced persons. With GAC’s support, the UNHCR responds to the needs of vulnerable people fleeing the conflict in Sudan in the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and those impacted by the crisis in Sudan. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter and essential non-food items to people in need; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation and hygiene services; (3) providing essential health services, including reproductive health; (4) providing protection, including child protection and protection against sexual and gender-based violence; and (5) working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees and help issue identity documents.
