Published purpose
July 2024 – Starting on July 1st, 2024, hurricane Beryl swept through the Caribbean as a category 4 hurricane, causing significant destruction particularly in Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as Jamaica. Hurricane Beryl is among the worst storms to hit these countries since records began in 1851. Over 1.1 million people are estimated to be affected in the region, including 940,000 in Jamaica. With GAC’s support, the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) is dispatching solicited emergency relief supplies to support relief operations in Jamaica. These supplies include blankets, kitchen sets, emergency shelter toolkits and other various non-food items to meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable people impacted by the hurricane.
