Building Essential Skills in the Workplace: This project involves the Innu Takuaikan Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam partnering with numerous local employers and the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador to develop and deliver an internship model which is multi-sectoral and includes the entire spectrum of potential employment in the community. This project is designed for people who are ready to join the labour force and aims to help them acquire essential skills, knowledge and job training. It also involves placing people in jobs as soon and as directly as possible in order to meet an urgent need for workers on the North Shore. Activities consist of internships that are between three weeks and four months in duration. Literacy and essential skills upgrading will be embedded within the internship plans and supplementary literacy and essential skills training will be available.
