Published purpose

Will develop and test of a comprehensive model for the integration of literacy and essential skills (LES) into ongoing community-based initiatives such as street nurse programs, medical clinics and drop-in facilities within inner-city and urban areas. This project will seek to achieve the following specific objectives: 1. To increase access to LES training by creating a barrier-free comprehensive model and training tools that allow adults in inner-city or urban areas to gain the LES required to access post-secondary training and employment opportunities enabling them to contribute to their communities. 2. To increase stakeholder awareness and use of new interactive online essential skills and literacy training tools that are designed to overcome the barriers experienced by multi-barriered adults in inner-city or urban areas. 3. To develop the capacity of health organizations to assist multi-barriered adults in increasing their LES.
