Published purpose

The project aims to improve the quality of primary education in Mali, specifically by improving the skills of primary school teachers and improving the quality of learning for girls and boys at the primary level. This project includes two components: (1) strengthening continuous learning for teachers and (2) establishing a system for evaluating primary school learning. The project provides technical assistance to the Ministry of Education, Literacy and National Languages through a Canadian support agency. The first component follows directly from the Support in Continuing Education for Teachers project and aims to strengthen the management of continuing education for teachers at every level of the education system, to contribute to establishing learning communities throughout the country, and to improve the teaching practices in classrooms. The second component is a new initiative aiming to strengthen the institutional capacities of the departments responsible for monitoring and evaluating primary school learning at the central, regional and local levels.
