Published purpose
This project aims to enhance respect for, and the protection and fulfillment of the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirited, and intersex (LGBTQ2I) persons. It creates the Act Together for Inclusion Fund (ACTIF), which will finance project initiatives proposed by Canadians civil society organizations working in collaboration with local organizations in developing countries. This project applies a human rights-based approach, including the principles of: (1) equality and non-discrimination; (2) participation and inclusion; and (3) transparency and accountability. It adopts a participatory process to enable the meaningful and ongoing engagement of LGBTQ2I persons and organizations at all stages. Project activities include: (1) establishing a $10.3 million fund; (2) providing training and capacity building to enable organizations to request funding and implement projects in developing countries; and (3) facilitating knowledge exchange between Canadian and international civil society organizations working to advance the human rights of LGBTQ2I people. The project intends to support LGBTQ2I people and communities in developing countries who are facing discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.
