Published purpose

This project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Mines of Senegal. Project activies include: (1) strengthening the mining policy and providing advisory services for its implementation; (2) sharing best practices on mechanisms for redistributing mining royalties to local communities (and the government's capacity to manage these revenues); (3) engaging the mining communities on mining projects; (4) sharing experience and providing advisory services on the operation of social mining funds; (5) providing advisory support for the implementation of the Plan Émergent Sénégal flagship projects in the extractive sector; and (6) supporting the environmental management of mining activities and mining taxation. In addition to the Ministry of Mines, the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-Institutional Coordination and Consultation Group (GICC) of the Senegalese Geomatics Plan, mining communities and civil society are also direct beneficiaries of the project.
