Published purpose
This project focuses on the Emergency Response Plan for COVID-19, which complements the Primary School Teacher Training Program (PSTTP), a broader eight-year project (2015-2023) implemented by UNICEF. The project aims to increase the effectiveness of classroom teaching and learning processes at the pre-primary and primary levels in three targeted regions (Mbeya, Njombe and Songwe). UNICEF’s Emergency Response Plan for COVID-19 seeks to preserve an educational environment favourable to implementing the PSTTP activities to compensate for the long school closure caused by the pandemic. Project activities include: (1) supporting regional secretariats and local government authorities to develop and distribute home learning packages for lower grade children; (2) using technological innovation to ensure that children are learning at home; and (3) raising public awareness to ensure that, while at home, children are protected, receive psychological support and continue to learn.
