Published purpose

The Canada-Honduras Value-Added Agroforestry project (CAHOVA) supports the social and economic development of associative enterprises and the expansion of markets for agroforestry products. It seeks to help low-income members of 38 associative enterprises to diversify their product lines in eight profitable agroforestry sectors: cocoa, coffee, honey, heart of palm, tilapia, tropical wood, furniture and pine resin. The project also seeks to improve production techniques on at least 1,000 hectares, and bring to market high-value agroforestry products. Activities are expected to generate income and sustainably improve living conditions of 9,000 direct beneficiaries, including 4,000 women, and 54,000 indirect beneficiaries. The associative agroforestry enterprises supported by the project are located in the departments of Francisco Morazán, El Paraíso, Comayagua, Santa Barbara and Atlántida.
