Published purpose
This initiative is a part of the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in Asia, which funds private sector projects across Asia and the Pacific that help countries reduce their carbon footprint and adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change. During the Fund’s four-year investment period, this technical assistance component provides assistance to select climate-friendly private sector projects or public sector projects that improve the enabling environment for private sector investments. In support of the Fund’s objectives, the technical assistance component aims to support the deployment of new technologies and activities that enable policy and institutional reforms, including the establishment of regulatory frameworks that encourage climate change mitigation and adaptation. As such, the initiative makes funds available to support technical assistance for project preparation, policy development and advisory services, and capacity development, including support for gender mainstreaming in Fund projects. Canada's total contribution to the Fund is expected to leverage up to US $300 million in private sector investment over the Fund's 24-year life and help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 750,000 tonnes per annum.
