Published purpose

This project aims to increase the effectiveness of the judiciaries across the Sahel, including trial, appellate and supreme court level judges, in the application of international counterterrorism and human rights norms, standards, and obligations in the adjudication of terrorism and related cases. Project activities include: (1) supporting an initial inception phase conducted to coordinate implementing partners and inform regional actors, networks, and interlocutors of the project; (2) facilitating two national study visits that includes representatives from Supreme Courts of the Sahel, Canada and France; (3) facilitating two Trial and Appellate level training seminars held in conjunction with the national study visits; (4) holding a final supreme court level meeting in order to discuss priority issues identified at the outset of the program, discuss observations from study visits and develop supreme court level strategies; and (5) drafting a final report that captures discussions held throughout the program and puts forward recommendations, strategies and good practices for the purpose of broad dissemination in the courts of the Sahel and international legal community.
