Published purpose
March 2018 - Chad struggles with humanitarian emergencies related to food insecurity, malnutrition and displacement. As a result, 4.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Close to 900,000 people are faced with severe food shortages that threaten to wipe out their livelihoods. Severe acute malnutrition has surpassed the emergency threshold in fifteen of the country’s 23 regions. Conflicts and insecurity have uprooted hundreds of thousands of people internally and from neighbouring countries. With GAC’s support, International Rescue Committee is addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of up to 15,274 people in the Lac Region. Project activities include: (1) providing quality services for holistic care to survivors of gender-based violence, benefiting up to 1,944 women and girls; (2) supporting the provision of care from health care personnel to survivors of sexual violence, benefiting up to 40 survivors; and (3) identifying and providing training to women’s groups on livelihoods activities, benefiting up to 300 people.
