Published purpose
February 2018 – Following a coup d’état in March 2013, the humanitarian situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) rapidly deteriorated. In 2017, the country continued to be plagued by violent conflict between armed groups and inter-communal violence. The number of displaced people in the country has increased to over 1.24 million, comprised of roughly 688,000 internally displaced people and 556,375 refugees – the highest number ever recorded in CAR. In 2018, an estimated 2.5 million people in CAR will require humanitarian assistance. With GAC’s support, Solidarités International is providing assistance to address the urgent needs of up to 10,100 conflict-affected people in Ouham and Nana-Gribizi prefectures, in the CAR. This project focuses on increasing access to safe water and sanitation facilities, as well as livelihoods support for conflict affected populations. Project activities include: (1) constructing or rehabilitating up to 14 water points, benefitting up to 7,000 people; (2) raising awareness on hygiene practices of up to 7,000 people; (3) providing up to 120 vulnerable women with livelihood kits, benefitting up to 600 people; and (4) distributing food vouchers to 400 vulnerable households, benefitting up to 2,000 people.
