Published purpose
This project aims to strengthen the capacities of States to develop laws, improve monitoring of national initiatives, and report on them to ensure full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (UNSCR 1540) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). Project activities include: (1) supporting coordination between beneficiary States seeking to build capacity and donor States able to provide assistance, to enable the development of laws on biological, chemical, and nuclear security; (2) designing a website and database under the ‘Assistance Support Initiative’ (ASI) to facilitate knowledge and resource sharing; (3) developing an international compendium of legal standards on chemical safety and security, as well as best practices for identifying chemicals that could be used for military purposes; and (4) providing training for a priority country in Southeast Asia to address operational gaps in transshipment within supply chains
