Published purpose
This grant represents Canada's institutional support to the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research’s (CGIAR) Generating Evidence and New Directions for Equitable Results (GENDER) Platform. CGIAR uses these funds, along with other donors’ funding, to achieve its mandate. This initiative supports CGIAR’s efforts to put gender equality and women’s empowerment at the forefront of global agricultural research for development by leveraging, synthesizing, and filling evidence gaps in its work on gender and climate change, and developing options to integrate gender within climate-focused projects and policies. CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food-secure future. The CGIAR Consortium’s 15 Centers carry out research in close collaboration with partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. CGIAR’s mandate is to advance agri-food science and innovation to reduce poverty, hunger, and environmental degradation in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. As of late 2020, CGIAR’s refocused mission is to deliver science and innovation that advance the transformation of food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis.
