Health Science Consultants This contract was developed with the objective of garnering important biomonitoring data on perfluoralkyl substances (PFAS) levels to meet current priorities and build in flexibility for future analysis of the health impacts of PFAS. Biomonitoring of this important chemical class in these existing data sets is a cost effective, timely, and forward-looking strategy to provide important data necessary to risk assessment and risk management activities. The short term objective of this requirement is the quantification of a suite of 40 PFAS chemicals in biobanked plasma samples provided to the supplier for laboratory analysis. The quantification of PFAS in these plasma samples will allow Health Canada to investigate the levels of this environmental chemical class in Canadian cohorts. For some of these PFAS, this will represent some of the first biomonitoring data in Canada, or in these susceptible Canadian populations. The need for additional analyses was foreseen, and option years with up to 2000 analyses per year were included in the contract. This amendment exercises one of those options for analysis of up to 850 biospecimens from pregnant women collected in the past five years.
