Published purpose

July 2019 – In 2019, there are an estimated 6.7 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Iraq, 18% of the total population. More than 1.6 million persons remain internally displaced, despite the expulsion of Daesh from Iraqi territory in December 2017. Displaced people both in-camp and out-of-camp settings continue to depend on the provision of humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. With GAC’s support and the support of other donors, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is leading a multi-sectoral response, which is helping to meet the shelter, health, protection and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs of some of the most vulnerable conflict-affected people in Iraq. These people include internally displaced people (IDPs), recent returnees, and members of host communities. Project activities include: (1) providing support for shelter and non-food items; (2) providing primary health services; (3) monitoring and addressing protection and psychosocial needs; (4) supporting WASH services; and (5) supporting camp co-ordination and camp management services in IDP camps and informal settlements.
