Published purpose

This project works to support UN country teams and civil society organizations in Haiti and Sudan to effectively transition from UN peace operations to civilian-led peacebuilding initiatives. In Sudan, this project aims to enhance the local peacebuilding capacities of women and youth, strengthen the rule of law, and support the return of displaced people in Darfur. The project also focuses on consolidating peacebuilding gains in light of the drawdown of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur. In Haiti, this project aims to support the transition from the recently concluded United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti to a UN Special Political Mission, with a greater focus on long-term peacebuilding. The project also works to provide technical support to national institutions to help prevent electoral violence against women, strengthen access to justice, support community-violence reduction initiatives, and implement disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programs.
