Published purpose
March 2020 - High levels of humanitarian need in Afghanistan are fueled by the ongoing intra-Afghan conflict, natural disasters, the uncertain political landscape and displacement dynamics. In 2020, an estimated 9.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with primary sectors of concern including health, food security, nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene. With GAC’s support, the International Medical Corps work to provide assistance to address the urgent needs of approximately 240,000 people in three eastern provinces of Afghanistan. This project focuses on improving access to lifesaving emergency trauma care, and basic health services for conflict-affected people. Project activities include: (1) establishing a new operating theatre; (2) mobilizing five first aid trauma posts; (3) providing essential life-saving medical equipment; (4) setting up four health centres; (5) establishing one mobile health team; and (6) providing training to healthcare professionals.
