Published purpose

January 2021 - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF works in developing countries through its development and humanitarian assistance programming to fulfill its mandate, including promoting the equal rights of girls and women, and to support their full participation in the political, social, and economic development of their communities. With the support of GAC and other donors, UNICEF will fulfill its mandate. Project activities include: (1) providing lifesaving assistance to children, adolescents and families, including migrant populations affected by crises through safe water, sanitation and hygiene facilities (WASH), health and nutrition, and emergency education; and (2)providing child protection safe spaces including gender-based violence (GBV) risk mitigation, prevention or response interventions for children and women.
